Gulfi is an Italian wine producer in the east of Sicily. The winery owns about 70 hectares, on which the typical Sicilian grape varieties are grown: Frappato, Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Carricante and Nero d'Avola. Gufi Winery was founded in 1996 by Vito Catania together with Salvo Foti. The vineyards are located in the Noto, Etna and Cerasuolo di Vittoria wine regions, and the grapes are grown organically. The berries are picked by hand and the vines are supported using the Alberello system.
Nero d'AvolaAll products from this varietal
Nero D’Avola red wines are known for very bold fruit-driven bouquet that range from blackberry to prune. Nero d’Avola shows its full-bodied structure and rich tannin. Best examples are suitable for long aging.
The ground here is blessed by the sun and the Mediterranean climate as if it was created for winemaking. Due to the large number of sunny days the grapes quickly become candied and turn into raisins, which is why dessert wines compose about 90% of total wine production. One of the most outstanding sweet wines in the region is Marsala. However do not ignore the red and white wines, which are produced all over the island by both large and small manufacturers. The main varieties allowed are Nero d'Avola, Nerello Mascelese and Catarratto.
